The theme this week is green. All three beers boast green labels!

Pure Project / Green Cheek Experience Preferred *But Not Always Necessary | Hazy IPA (6.7%%): With cans as luminously emerald as the parrots for whom Green Cheek Beer Co. is named, this collaborative hazy IPA brewed at Pure Project Brewing is eye-catching from a distance. Loaded with Citra and Riwaka ‒ the former also in Cryo form ‒ this opaque creation abounds with aromas of key lime and grapefruit sherbet. A beer such as this on your CV would surely land you an interview!

Andechs Vollbier Hell | Helles Lgaer (4.8%): With a brewing lineage stretching back to 1455 ‒ a full six decades before the advent of the Reinheitsgebot ‒ Kloster Andechs sits atop a mountain overlooking the Ammersee, a lake whose shape rather resembles a submarine tipped endwise. This monastic brewery is an easy day-trip southwest of Munich, and one of the more beautiful places on earth to have a beer. And what incredible beer! Flagship Vollbier Hell is a pitch-perfect pale lager, light in body but full in flavor. If you somehow drink too many of these, you can also stay the night at the inn on site, mind you… Prost!

Chimay Cent Cinquante | Belgian Strong Blonde Ale (10%): The predominant trifecta of beers by the Trappists at Chimay have official titles but are popularly referred to by the colors of their labels: Red (a dubbel), White (a tripel) and Blue (a Belgian strong dark ale). This special release initially debuted back in 2012 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the brewery at Scourmont Abbey. Appropriately, although its name is Cent Cinquante (= “150” in French ‒ the delightful English word “sesquicentennial” is a near-calque), drinkers immediately began calling it “Chimay Green”. A hefty 10% in ABV (alcohol-by-volume) with characteristic high carbonation, this beer has more recently joined the roster of year-round offerings. À votre santé!
