All of this week’s picks are special releases from Los Angeles and Orange County breweries, not to be widely found in San Diego.

Highland Park High 9 DDH DIPA | Hazy Double IPA (8%): In honor of Highland Park Brewery’s ninth anniversary, they cooked up a triad of beers for very limited distribution, and this is one of them! Headquartered in the eponymous L.A. neighborhood, but with a fantastic satellite production facility and taproom on the outskirts of Chinatown, HPB has set a new bar for Angelenos since its 2014 debut. This double IPA is translucent and concentrated, with Citra Cryo, Mosaic Cryo, Strata and newcome HBC 1019. The lattermost is a new experimental varietal, a collaborative effort between the Hop Breeding Company and Yakima Chief Hops, and one that’s sure to receive a name soon. Cheers to Highland Park for nine years of achievements!

Everywhere Deep Breaths | Czech-style Pilsner (4.6%): Everywhere Beer is a new operation out of Orange, the seat of Orange County. Early tap takeovers at Bottlecraft Long Beach and North Park Beer Co. alerted us that they were a new talent to watch! Deep Breaths utilizes floor-malted Bohemian barley and Saaz hops, a classic formula that needs little tinkering. Please join us in welcoming Jeremy Grinkey of Everywhere to town at the following events.

  •   Thursday, March 30 – Bottlecraft Oceanside
  •   Friday, March 31 – Bottlecraft Little Italy

Beachwood Blendery Solely Masumoto Sun Crest Peach | Barrel-aged Sour Ale (6.5%): Located outside of Fresno, Masumoto Family Farm is a byword for absolutely flawless peaches and nectarines. Longtime fans of sour beer in Southern California will instantly recognize the mastery of stone fruit from Cuvée de Masumoto, a tribute by Mark Jilg of Craftsman Brewing. Now Beachwood Blendery has sourced a few scarce bushels of their produce for Solely Masumoto, a lineup of three distinct, oak-aged funky and acidic beers. This particular expression spotlights Suncrest peaches, renowned for their exceptional juiciness without sacrificing density of flavor. These bottles are to be counted in single digits, with each Bottlecraft location receiving fewer than a case each in aggregate.
