OG40 gets in the O-fest spirit

North Park brewpub, The Original 40 Brewing, releases its seasonal Märzen in anticipation of its upcoming Oktoberfest Games

The Original 40 Brewing has released Pärte Märzen in honor of Oktoberfest. The German-style amber lager is available on draft and in four-packs of 16-ounce cans at the North Park brewpub. Coming in at 5.6% alcohol-by-volume (ABV), the beer has pronounced caramel sweetness and toasted-biscuit notes balanced by a mild hop bitterness.

“Oktoberfest might be on par with Christmas as the most joyous time of the year,” said Head Brewer Steven Terán. “Pouring our Oktoberfest beer for the first time each year is like unwrapping that first toy from under the Christmas tree. This is always a special time on the beer calendar.”

The Original 40 is hosting its fourth-annual Oktoberfest Games on Saturday, September 28. From 1 to 5 p.m., four different competitions will be held – best lederhosen and dirndl Outfits, Bavarian pretzel-eating contest, stein-holding competition and partner pretzel-toss. The Original 40 gift cards will be awarded to the winners.

“A Märzen is known for its balance, providing a smooth, drinkable quality that makes it perfect for autumn celebrations like Oktoberfest,” said The Original 40 founder Steve Billings. “Steven did a tremendous job. It’s time to party with Pärte Märzen.”

Pärte Märzen is now one of three lagers on the draft menu, joining Baja Soul Mexican-style lager (5% ABV) and Crispy Boi Helles-style lager (4.9% ABV).

The Original 40 opens at noon, Monday through Friday, and 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
