North Park ops brew dual pale ales
The Original 40 Brewing an TapRoom Beer Co. take a whirl at the very same recipe with varied results
The Original 40 Brewing and TapRoom Beer Co. have collaborated on Soo Breezy West Coast pale ale, a side-by-side trial beer from the North Park breweries that used the same recipe but with different Amarillo hops. The Original 40 featured T90 Amarillo from Virgil Gamache Farms while TapRoom included Flowable Amarillo from Totally Natural Solutions.
Soo Breezy, which comes in at 5.4% alcohol-by-volume (ABV), is available on draft at the two breweries, which are just one-and-a-half miles apart. The beer is for sale in four-packs of 16-ounce cans at The Original 40.
Soo Breezy pours golden yellow with a light orange hue. Both batches used Gambrinus IPA malt supplied by Brewers Supply Group. The beer has tasting notes of grapefruit, orange and citrus with a slight piney, dank aroma.
“We hope beer enthusiasts will head to North Park and try both versions of the beer,” said The Original 40 Head Brewer Zack Kaplan. “We would love for everyone to give us feedback, something we as brewers are always looking for. We always want to grow and improve for our fans.”
“We just think there is something so cool about Soo Breezy,” said TapRoom Beer Head Brewer Dan Cady. “We hope everyone will be as eager as we were to try the two takes on the beer. We want to hear from everyone who visits San Diego’s great craft-beer hub of North Park.”
The Original 40 also recently released OG Tropics, a hazy IPA that is 7% ABV and brewed with Chinook, Mosaic, Azacca and Citra Cryo hops. The beer pours straw yellow with a creamy white head and has a tropical nose featuring aromas of lychee and stone fruit with subtle pine dankness.
The Original 40 Brewing is located at 3117 University Avenue and TapRoom Beer Co. is located at 2000 El Cajon Boulevard in North Park
