Burgeon / Everywhere Far & Near | New Zealand IPA (6.4%): The title of this beer is a perfect aperçu, as it encapsulates a brewery both far (Everywhere) and near (Burgeon), at least from a San Diego perspective – but seen from Orange County it would be the other way around! Everywhere Beer Company is increasingly living up to its own name as the self-distribution drops and collabs have been landing with greater frequency. This West Coast IPA is double dry-hopped with an absolute bevy of New Zealand varietals along with Citra, Mosaic and Mosaic Cryo to boot!
Firestone Walker Pivo Pils | Dry-hopped Pilsner (5.3%): How has a core beer of such extensive breadth and renown not yet been profiled in these pages? The key to this mystery lies in the local arm of the nationwide distribution company for Firestone Walker, who for baffling reasons has refused to stock this beer in cans for many years now. This is thus a triumphant return for one of the more iconic dry-hopped pilsners of our age. Despite the Slavic origins of the name (“Pivo” simply means “beer” in every single Slavonic tongue), this beer was at least in part inspired by Tipo Pils from northern Italy.
Gueuzerie Tilquin Oude Airelle Sauvage | Traditional Lambic (6.5%): Pierre Tilquin has joined the pantheon of blenders of traditional lambic. Displaying a mastery of classic gueuze as well as the classic fruits of the region, in recent years he has become ever-more esoteric in his choice of ingredients. This never-before-seen iteration contains a healthy dose of lingonberries for zingy tart aromatics and crunchy acidic flavors, topped off by generous carbonation. Op uw gezondheid / À votre santé!
