Aztec teams with legendary songwriter
The owners of Vista's Aztec Brewing partner with Jack Tempchin to debut Peaceful Easy Feeling beverages at a concert event on June 29
Aztec Brewing has partnered with local signer/songwriter Jack Tempchin, who wrote the iconic Eagles song “Peaceful Easy Feeling”, to create a new line of collaboration brews inspired by the song:
- Peaceful Easy Feeling Pale Ale: Lightly hopped with biscuit notes
- Peaceful Easy Feeling Prickly Pear Margarita Hard Seltzer: Desert fruit with Añejo and citrus
- Peaceful Easy Feeling Prickly Pear Non Alcoholic Seltzer: Refreshing desert fruit-and-lime seltzer water
Aztec was founded in 2011 as a revived historic San Diego beer brand. The original Aztec Brewing was started by three San Diegans in 1921 during prohibition in Mexicali, Mexico. After the repeal of Prohibition in 1932 the brewery was moved to Barrio Logan where it was a major beer-producer in Southern California until its sale in the late 1940s.
Shortly after the brand was revived, Aztec pioneered live music at breweries in North County thanks to partner/musician Tristan Faulk-Webster. Aztec now hosts live shows regularly.
“We’re a very music-centric brewing company,” says partner and CFO Claudia Faulk. “Working with Jack Tempchin was a natural fit for us because we really support the local music scene and because we grew up listening to his hit songs recorded by the Eagles.”
Aztec co-founder and partner John Webster developed the album cover-style art to promote the new line of Peaceful Easy Feeling beverages. Webster used photos, pencils, paper and Adobe Photoshop software to develop the images.
“I was inspired to become an artist by the music and album covers of the ’60s and ’70s. Working with Jack gave me a chance to create visuals for a song that I’ve been listening to since I was in high school,” says Webster. “Twenty-five years ago I would have painted the images with acrylics and airbrush, but now I use a hybrid technique ‒ drawing and under-painting with graphite pencil, and then coloring with transparent and opaque layers in Photoshop.”
The official release of the new Peaceful Easy Feeling branded beverages will happen on Sunday June 29. Aztec will host and outdoor concert from 2 to 8 p.m., headlined by Jack Tempchin and his Grammy award-winning protégé Gary Nicholson.
Tickets are available online. The full bill will include Glo and the Radioactives (2:30 p.m.), Fermental Breakdown (3:30 p.m.), Tommi-Tom Sho (4:30 p.m.), Nicholson (5:30 p.m.) and Tempchin (6:30 p.m.), and Faulk and Webster will be performing with two of the aforementioned acts.
